The above quote might surprise a few people at a glance, however, when dissected it makes perfect sense. While you would think that in a large city like Leeds you would have much more chance of starting up a relationship as, it is, a numbers game, the reality is that when you are in a large city there are certain negative elements, from a relationship perspective, really hamper you.
Just because you have access to more people and are more likely to interact with them on a daily basis does not mean that you truly get to know them. For many these interactions are quick and brushed over and for many they are even interactions which are not even pleasant or wanted, you are far more likely to have a run in with someone or encounter road rage in a big city than in a quiet suburb!
The chances of starting in a successful relationship, for most people, will not be increased by the number of interactions with members of the opposite sex per day but rather the number of quality interactions! Fall outs and people complaining on behalf of bad service are usually not start points for a relationship when a child asks its parents “how did you meet”.
This means speaking to three people at a fast food outlet asking them to move out of you way is not the kind of numbers game you want to be playing and this is where smaller more intimate towns and cities might help with a success rate but lower the overall numbers game. Generally, people in smaller towns and places are not in the same kind of rush that people in Leeds are, the big city effect can often lead to bad attitudes and rushing which are never the right foot to get off on.
One advantage of smaller communities is that everyone knows everyone, this statement is a little brushing and vague but it does make it much easier to spark up a conversation with someone if you know them, know someone who is known to them or even have some insight into their personality or hobbies.
This theory is partially backed up by the high number of escort services that you see in the large cities vs. smaller towns and villages in which this type of behavior would really be frowned upon. Even in the current recession with people working on budgets and companies going out of business all the time the number of escort agencies in big cities like Leeds seems to be on the increase all of the time. Perhaps the close and somewhat seedy link between escorts and the worlds oldest profession is partially the reason for this but its really tricky to say.
